Customs prevalent in Rajasthan

1. Female slaughter practice-

A practice prevalent among Rajputs under which as soon as a girl was born, she was killed by giving her opium or by strangulation.

This practice was first banned in Kota in 1833 AD and in Bundi state in 1834 AD during the time of Lord William Bentinck due to the efforts of Hadoti's political agent Will Quinson.

2. Slavery

People who were defeated in the war were taken captive and kept as slaves, along with buying and selling of slaves was also done.

Among Rajputs, on the occasion of a girl's marriage, Gola/Goli was sent along as a slave.

This practice was first banned in Hadoti area in 1832 AD.

3. Human trafficking practice

Under the Kota state, state duty was collected on human buying and selling, which was called "Chagan".

This practice was first banned in the state of Jaipur in 1847 AD.

4. Widow remarriage system

With the efforts of Ishwar Chand Vidya Sagar, Widow Remarriage Act was passed by Lord Dalhousie in 1856 AD.

5. Dowry system

Dowry Prohibition Act was passed in 1961 AD.

6. forced labor system

It was the practice of the Jagirdars not to pay any wages to a person after getting him to do the work.

This practice was banned in 1961 AD.

7. Bonded labor system/Sagadi system/Hali system

In return for the money lent by the moneylender or the capitalist class, the Seth kept the debtor or a member of his family as a servant.
